October President’s Message.
We just had a wonderful fund raiser on Friday. We had a good old fashioned Lions Club spaghetti dinner. It was well attended and I’m so proud of how our club members came together, worked together and did one heck of a job to make the entire event a rousing success. Nice work folks. Many times when you go to something like this you eat because you are doing it to help a cause. But on this one the food was so good we could have given any restaurant a run for their money!
One item that has come across our collective desk is the pool at Camp Challenge. They need to replace the entire pool to meet new government regulations at a cost of $275,000.00! We’ve lost our Lions Club camp in the state. I don’t want to see the folks over at Easter Seals run into the same problem. That’s a big number to think about, I know it overwhelms me. But if we work as a club, involve the district, the state organization and our support network at international we can do something to put a pool back at that camp. From everything I’ve heard, being in the pool is the only way these kids with multiple physical disabilities can ever feel really “free”. We’ve got to hitch up our britches and do what we can to help those kids keep feeling that way. It’ll be tough but if any bunch is up to the challenge, I know we are.
Of course as always I’d like to grow our club and Lions international by about a bazillion new members. So if you have friends, relative or acquaintances that need an outlet to help their fellow human, grab ‘em and drag ‘em to a meeting!
It’s great to be a Lion,
King Lion Phill
